There may be a potential punishment for anyone who neglects the environment

According to euronews, damaging the environment could be considered a crime in France after a vast majority of citizens voted to make environmental negligence an offence punishable by law.

A few weeks ago, a group of 150 randomly selected French citizens voted for the measure, encouraging the government to penalise those who neglect the environment.

Making ‘ecocide’ a crime will help create a duty of care for the environment, forcing the population to make positive changes towards their behaviour to avoid any potential penalty.

Limiting the number of cars on the road is also on the agenda and the banning of vehicles with high emissions is also expected to come into force in 2025.
